Why do you think everyone is so mean to the ugly duckling?

The mother duckling says, "I am sure he will make his way in the world as well as anybody." What do you think that means?

Why do you think people are sometimes cruel to those who are different than they are?

How did the suffering that the Ugly Duckling experienced help him to know what "it was to be really happy"?

The Snow-man

What does the dog mean when he says, "The sun will soon teach you to run"?

Why do you think the Snow-man has hard time understanding what the dog is saying?

Why do you think the Snow-man wants to see the stove?

Do you think the Snow-man has fallen in love with the stove? Why or why not?

Why do you think the narrator (the one telling the story) says that it is a "bad sign" that the Snow-man did not "say anything" or "complain" when he began to melt away?
