Tchaikovsky's ballet is based upon this story which first appeared in 1816. The Nutcracker, cherished by the little girl Marie, battles an army of mice with many other toys at his side. This edition is adapted by Bob Blaisdell with 30 black-and-white illustrations by Thea Kliros.
