Introduction

"The Happy Prince" comes from a book of fairy tales that Oscar Wilde published in 1888: The Happy Prince and Other Tales. He wrote the book for his two sons, Cyril and Vyvyan. Wilde's masterpiece is considered to be his play The Importance of Being Earnest. He was a great wit and an extremely quotable individual. While going through customs in America he said, "I have nothing to declare except my genius."
