Related LinksShakespeare in Quarto: This site has images of the closest thing we have to the original manuscripts that Shakespeare wrote. The site has this to say about Quartos: "Shakespeare’s plays began to be printed in 1594, probably with his tragedy Titus Andronicus. This appeared as a small, cheap pamphlet called a quarto because of the way it was printed." This is a good site and part of the British Library. Shakespeare's Sonnets: Although this site a little uncomfortable to look at (dark blue background with colored text) and the layout is a little strange with each sonnet you can read good explanatory notes and there are some nice paintings. The Shakespeare Authorship Page: Dedicated to the Proposition that Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare (see following link) Shakespeare Oxford Society Home Page: There is some controversy about the authorship of the plays attributed to Shakespeare. One of the more common choices is Francis Bacon. This site chooses Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (1550-1604) as the author of the plays. It's an interesting debate and this site has a lot of interesting information. |
