This Literature Unit Is:

"A Modest Proposal"
by Jonathan Swift

Introduction

Jonathan Swift is best-known for his book, Gulliver's Travels (not the title Swift gave it) , which is most often read in abridged versions as a children's story. In its full version it is an adult book that comments, often bitingly, on this world. "A Modest Proposal" is a short essay considered by many critics to be the best satirical essay ever written.
