This Literature Unit Is:

Prometheus Bound
by Aeschylus

Introduction

Aeschylus is one of the greatest of the Greek tragic poets. Of the 90 plays he wrote only seven survive:The Suppliant Maidens, The Persians, The Oresteia (a trilogy), The Seven Against Thebes and Prometheus Bound. Prometheus is the Titan who stole fire to give to humans. He suffers dire consequences for this act, but remains courageous and defiant against Zeus who punishes him for it. This is his story—and ours.
