Two children reading books

About Glen Draeger

A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age.
               — Robertson Davies

I came to love reading and literature relatively late (in my early-twenties) but it has been a passion (along with writing) ever since then. Our family library is constantly crying out for more bookshelves, a welcome problem many of us homeschoolers have, and every so often my wife, Kristin, and I do some culling of our 2,000 plus volume library, as painful as that can be.

After teaching high school for four years I moved to South Lake Tahoe for a year to read, write and ski. After a year there I returned to the San Diego area where I worked 30 hours a week for 17 years in part to pursue my love of reading and writing. During 2002 I taught homeschooled children great literature classes in addition to my day job.

In September of 2003 my former employer laid off close to 3,000 workers including myself. I used the severance package to go back to school for a year to learn web development skills.

This site is an outgrowth of my passion for reading, research and writing. My purpose is to provide parents, teachers and students with a valuable resource to pursue appreciating, understanding and enjoying great literature.

Although I own a time-machine and spaceship, have regular meetings with a literate mouse that lives in the walls of my house and travel frequently into a world where I meet dead authors and fictional characters most people I know consider me to be quite normal.

Kristin and I have been married for 15 years. We homeschool our son who is seven years old.
