Children of all ages love a good story. The same information that will bore a child in a textbook will engage them if it is presented in a story with characters and plots that interest them. My emphasis on Millstone Education: World Literature is to teach children about classic literature and its authors through both reading the great works and the creative stories I write that present authors, themes and questions of great literature in a fun and entertaining way.

In Grades K-3 I visit Professor Bartholomew Higginbottom, a literary mouse that lives in the walls of my house. Helping the professor with vocabulary words is Sniffy, the Hamster, our resident wordsmith.

In Grades 4-7 my guide Iris takes me to The World of Literature where the characters, stories and authors of great literature actually exist. I've been the Mad Hatter's tea party and met a Greek god—a rather frightening experience.

For Grades 8-12 anything can happen: I might take my dog Fezzik in my time-machine, the H.G. Wells or my spaceship, Lem One to visit dead authors or aliens who study literature on our planet. I've even had tea with Shakespeare in my own home and met a man in a bookstore whose resemblance to George Orwell surpassed mere coincidence.

All these adventures comprise part of a Literature Unit based upon a classic work of literature. Used together with the reading of the great work each Literature Unit (which also includes discussion questions, additional reading, links to related sites, vocabulary and other related material) enhances both the enjoyment and understanding of the piece being read.

Access to the entire site is $35.00 per year, per household.
